Lessons from the Olive Grove
Cultivating Impact with Intention
Recently, I had the privilege of returning home to Greece to help my family with our annual olive harvest. There’s something grounding about harvesting olives. It is an activity that reinforces a literal connection to the earth but also to the spirit of my ancestors. There is great power and privilege in connecting with the land that has sustained my family for generations.
Harvesting olives is labor-intensive, requiring patience, care, and a deep understanding of the environment. It’s a process that reflects resilience and adaptability, two qualities I strive to bring into my work with organizations seeking meaningful, equity-centered change.
Like the olive tree—rooted, enduring, and generational—transformative impact doesn’t happen overnight. It requires careful tending, collaboration, and a commitment to long-term growth.
In our family village near Sparti, Odysseas backs up the tractor, carrying freshly harvested Koroneiki olives between rows of trees as the Taygetos Mountains rise in the background.
Carrying Tradition into this Work
I support nonprofits, community-based organizations, and government agencies to develop strategies that endure. My approach mirrors the olive harvest—thoughtful, intentional, and rooted in sustainability.
